NVIS
Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS) -- A system which uses image intensifier tubes to produce an enhanced image of a scene in light conditions to low for normal navigation and pilotage.
NVIS type I -- Any NVIS which uses generation III image intensifiers. NVIS Type II -- Any NVIS which uses generation III image intensifiers and projects the intensified image on a see through medium in the user's line of sght. As in the HUD symbology. NVIS (A) -- Any NVIS which uses the 625nm filter. This is not compatible with red cockpit lights. NVIS (B) -- Any NVIS which uses the 665nm filter. This is compatible with red cockpit lights. NVIS Radiance -- Is the amount of energy emitted by a light source that is visible through NVIS. Maximum NR (A) = 1.7 x 10-10 correlated to .1 footlambert. K-Light Laboratories owns a 1980C/NV Pritchard Spectroradiometer which has special software to test for NVIS compatiblitiy lighting.
